Next Monday and Tuesday (March 5th and 6th) I'll be at David Isenberg's Freedom to Connect conference in Silver Springs Maryland. There are a ton of interesting people on the schedule and, based on last year's conference, there will be plenty of interesting people in the audience as well.
This is a US-centric conference, driven by frustrations with US policy and the fact that, while US broadband adoption has been fast (even more rapid than cell phone adoption), the US is still falling behind other nations in broadband connections, connection speeds and costs.
I'll try to blog interesting things as we go, but likely there will be others more proficient at blogging a conference live.
I am a communications technician and a union member in the Communications Workers of America. I noticed that your description of the conference ("US broadband adoption has been fast (even more rapid than cell phone adoption), the US is still falling behind other nations in broadband connections, connection speeds and costs.")is very similar to the focus of our SpeedMatters campaign (http://www.speedmatters.org). We also are trying to draw attention to the fact that the US lags so far behind the rest of world in both access and speed and are trying to to push for Public Policy in suuport of affordable, HIGH SPEED internet for all. I am in NYC and just heard about the conference. I wish I could be there.
