I just came by some great photos of mobile phone cell sites being constructed in Nigeria and Mozambique. The pictures were taken last summer by friends at Advanced Telecoms (Pty) Ltd. in Pretoria, South Africa. Advanced Telecoms provides microwave and satellite transmission systems for cellular operators in Africa. Here's a site going together in Nigeria which uses a VSAT satellite link for backhaul from the cell site to the mobile switching center. There are additional pictures here and here.
